I am a pearl that started as a small grain of sand,Still and complacent until the water begins to get rough,I am swept into an oyster called high school.I begin my freshman year enclosed in my oyster,Going with the flow of new information and new experiences.I am introduced to new ways of thinking Through "Romeo and Juliet", shifting around the language likeI do upon the ocean floor. After freshman year I have gained a coating of wisdom from the challenges I faced,Sophomore year brings smooth tides at the beginning, As I glide through the works of "Julius Caesar","And 12 Angry Men",Suddenly I am caught in a riptide and relocated to warmer waters,From Maine to Virginia. The recent relocation has left me to recover, further buildingUp my creamy shield of wisdom and strength,The new waters bring rougher tides; I push through "The Crucible",And "Into the Wild" while dealing with the loss ofSomething close to me,With these challenges my shell has almost completely coveredMy sandy texture as the tides shift into another year.In this final year I can feel the oyster coming loose,Opening up to set me free,I gently glide closer to shore with the themes of "Sir Gawain" and "Beowulf"To guide meI finally roll onto shore in silent resolutionAs graduation approaches the oyster opens and frees me as the hardenedpearl I have become.
