Description
Hey, I'm Erin! Thanks for stopping by! I grew up in the Metro Detroit area (Troy) and I graduated from MSU in May of 2013 with a BA in Elementary Education. I really enjoy music (country, "today's hits," alternative rock, and some random stuff like Josh Groban), singing, playing my ukulele, watching TV and movies (Netflix anyone?), teaching, hanging out with friends, playing board/group games, reading, summer camp (worked at a couple over the last 3 summers), playing certain video/computer games, stuff that smells good (bonfires, cologne), baby animals, lazy days at home, star gazing, cuddling, holding hands, and a wide variety of other things. =PMy faith in Jesus is one of the most fundamental things about me. By no means am I anywhere close to perfect (too often I don't even feel worthy of calling myself His daughter), and I'm not always the "best" Christian, but God's grace is always there to catch me when I fall or when I turn away from Him. The point is that I'm trying to follow Him, and I'm looking for a man of God who's also trying.I'm currently completing my year of student teaching in the Holt School District in a 5th grade classroom! Soon I'll begin looking for a teaching job somewhere in Michigan, hopefully either in the Lansing area or the Metro Detroit area, and hopefully in a 7th and/or 8th grade position teaching math and/or science.I'm constantly asked where I'm going to go after my student teaching is over, and it's a complicated question to answer! My first instinct is to say, "Wherever I can find a teaching job!" And for the most part that's true. I've lived in the Lansing area for the last 5 years, but Metro Detroit is where my roots are, and my parents literally just moved back here (from living in CO for the last 2 years) and bought a big (nearly) brand-new house, and they've offered to let me live with them for a year or two until I can find a teaching job where I want to be so I can build up some cash before officially going out on my own. I'm seriously considering that proposition, so I'm likely going to move to Lake Orion in May after my student teaching is over to start interviewing and substitute in local school districts. So if you're from that area and not Lansing, don't count me out! 'Cause I'll probably be back. But if you're in Lansing, if I've got a really good reason to stay, I just might. ;)Singing has been my passion since I could talk, and it's one of the few hobbies I've actually stuck with. In middle and high school I was in choir, voice lessons, and my schools' plays and musicals. About a year ago I picked up the ukulele and I've fallen in love with it -- when I have the time, I love to take it out and play, and I carried it around with me at camp everywhere I went. I actually have a handful of covers on YouTube (both playing and singing)! If you're interested, check out my channel (ErinLynnMusic). =)My favorite genre of music is definitely country. I grew up listening to it and I just love it (if you don't, that's not a deal breaker haha). I also enjoy listening to "today's hits without the rap," and I've got my fair share of other music that I don't typically find on the radio, like certain alternative rock bands (my favorites are Relient K, The Cab, and The Maine) and other random artists like Owl City and Josh Groban. Musicals are also a hit with me, so I've got some of those soundtracks (Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, Hairspray, Hair, Spring Awakening). I also listen to a pretty good amount of Christian and worship music.TV is fun! I'm currently watching Chuck on Netflix, and I've gone through Law & Order: SVU, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Orange is the New Black. Other shows that I like that are on now (or shows I've enjoyed in the past) are How I Met Your Mother, Once Upon a Time, Glee, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Pretty Little Liars, and Survivor. Old school shows that I could never get sick of are Boy Meets World, Fresh Prince, Full House, and The Cosby Show.As for movies, romantic comedies are definitely my favorites, but I can watch a good action/adventure, and I absolutely love suspense/thrillers (but not so much horror, and I'm not so fond of the "stupid funny" comedies). And I can't live with some of those classic Disney movies (as well as some new -- Frozen was so good)! The top few favorite movies that come to mind are How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days, 17 Again, Mean Girls, The Holiday, The Proposal, Disturbia, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Princess Bride, and lots of others! I'm also really fond of Tim Hawkins and Jeff Dunham (comedians).Food... I love food. Especially dessert. Haha ice cream is my faaaavorite. Sesquicentennial Swirl from the MSU Dairy Store will forever be my favorite flavor. Cakes and pies are great. Haha as for "real" food, I'm not incredibly picky, and you'll have a *tough* time getting me to make a decision about where to go for dinner. Haha I love a good ole American cheeseburger and fries, baby back ribs, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, pizza, etc. but I also love Chinese, Thai, Italian, and sushi. I'm also willing to try new stuff! On a typical Friday night, I'm either in my apartment just hanging out by myself (watching Netflix, playing online games, or working on lesson planning) or with my roommate, or with friends. I'm an introvert, so I definitely cherish my alone time (I love a night in just watching Netflix and surfing the interwebs or playing games), and I'm not that person that's always calling or texting people to make plans -- but when stuff comes up, I'll usually join in the fun. =) If I had a significant other, I'd be spending a lot of quality time with him, just being in each other's presence, hanging out, talking, cuddling, etc. I may be an introvert but that would not keep me from being around my man. ;)
