I am just as happy out in the middle of the woods as I am watching a good movie at home. I enjoy anything outdoors from camping, fishing, hiking, and canoeing to performance art, museums, and concerts. Biking is my biggest outside enjoyment, although it sometimes becomes a form of meditation and a sense of freedom. I enjoy competing in duathlons/triathlons (ex. Galena, IL) when I can find time to train, but just haven't had enough time for those lately. Otherwise I enjoy participating in some charity events like the Tour de Cure or having some fun riding Tour de Brew. I also finished my 5th RAGBRAI last summer and plan on riding in 2014. Would that be considered a habit?! I hope to continue participating in events like those for years to come. I love listening to music of all kinds, except big-hair and heavy metal. Are those terms still applicable? But you should know what I mean! I especially like going to live performances. I'm a big Buffett, DMB and ZBB fan (among many, many others) but have yet to see any of them in concert. Hiking the Appalachian Trail all the way through in on my bucket list. One of these days! I've hiked long portions of it, as well as several long trails in Arkansas, where I completed my undergraduate and graduate school (UA Fayetteville). I grew up in Virginia and still have family there. I try to make it back there as much as possible. Friends describe me as easy-going, warm-hearted, open-minded, with a calm resolve, and a good listener (how many hyphenated descriptors are allowed?!). I am generally a little shy at first but quick to warm up. I generally have a goofy sense of humor, and can be a bit sarcastic at times. I am a loyal, honest, and trustworthy friend and the father of two bright and beautiful children. My daughter is in her junior year at UW Stevens Point, majoring in Psychology. My son is a senior at a local high school, enjoying some new freedom after getting his first car, and will be headed to college this fall. Input "stress" as appropriate! When I'm not working or taking care of things at home you will usually find me on my bike around the Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Hills and Solon areas in the spring, summer, and fall. My son and I also play a lot of disc golf at the area courses, and we have been getting into rally racing lately (not participating...yet, but who knows!). I also enjoy and have a huge appreciation for black and white photography. The contrasts and subtle shades of b/w photography really appeals to me.I appreciate a woman who is not afraid of getting her hands dirty from time to time. Jeans and a t-shirt can be just as attractive as anything else, but whatever makes you comfortable. I am also looking for a woman who likes to be spontaneous but still understands the routines of adult and/or parental life. It may seem obvious but I highly value honesty and trustworthiness. I am looking for friends, dinner, movie, conversation, etc. partners at first and see how and where things proceed.
